Mississippi State Fires Football Coach Zach Arnett in Inaugural Season

Former Defensive Coordinator Takes the Fall

Pivotal Leadership Change Amidst Struggles

Mississippi State athletics has announced the termination of football coach Zach Arnett after a lackluster first season at the helm. The decision, a drastic shift in leadership, comes on the heels of a series of disappointing performances under Arnett's guidance.

Arnett, a former Mississippi State defensive coordinator, was hired in December 2021 with aspirations of revitalizing the program. However, his inaugural season was marred by a series of setbacks, culminating in a 1-11 record and no conference victories.

The Bulldogs' struggles under Arnett were evident in all aspects of the game. Their offense was among the least productive in the nation, averaging a measly 13.5 points per game. The defense, once a cornerstone of the program, also faltered, allowing an average of 39.5 points per game.

Despite the disappointing results, Arnett maintained a positive attitude and expressed confidence in his ability to turn the program around. However, the patience of the athletic department and fanbase wore thin as the losses mounted. The decision to fire Arnett is a clear indication that a change in leadership is necessary to steer the Bulldogs back to success.
