Average Salary On The Rise

WNBA Salary Increases Show Positive Strides in Player Compensation

Average Salary on the Rise

The average salary in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) has risen significantly over the years. For the 2020-21 season, the average salary was $120,648, with only 14 players earning $200,000 or more. In 2022, the average salary jumped to $102,751 among 151 athletes.

Minimum Salary Increases

The minimum salary has also increased substantially. In 2016, the minimum base level salary for a rookie selected in the third round of the draft was $62,285. By 2024, the minimum salary for players with three or more years of service in the league will be around $77,000.

Continued Progress

These increases demonstrate positive strides in player compensation in the WNBA. The league has made a concerted effort to improve salaries and benefits for its athletes, and these recent developments are a testament to that commitment.
